President Prabowo named Honorary Councilor of PSSI
President Prabowo Subianto has agreed to become an Honorary Councilor of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), said PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir.
The announcement came after a meeting between Erick and the President at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
Founded on April 19, 1930, PSSI is the official governing body for football in Indonesia. The organization is responsible for overseeing national teams, professional leagues, and the overall development of football throughout the country.
“One of the matters we discussed at the congress was that, gladly, the President has accepted to become an Honorary Councilor of PSSI,” Erick said after the meeting with the president.
The proposal to induct Prabowo into the honorary role was also addressed during the Congress of PSSI, held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Mega Kuningan, Jakarta, on the same day.
Erick emphasized that having the head of state in such a role could help align the national agenda with FIFA's goals, boosting the development and governance of Indonesian football.
“Alhamdulillah (Thank God), after this, we will immediately propose it during the congress. It’s already part of the statute,” he added.
Erick was present at the PSSI Congress, but noted that his meeting with President Prabowo was primarily about ensuring the implementation of government-mandated transport discounts, which are set to begin on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
“The President wanted to ensure that, starting early June, all the planned discounts for railways, toll roads, airlines, and other sectors are properly implemented,” Erick cited.
